Study: Binge Drinkers Think They Are Great Drunk Drivers

A new study of students who drink to become intoxicated has shown that they believe they are able drunk drivers.

The study involved 40 'binge drinkers' who were asked to do driving simulations after receiving a small dose of alcohol or placebo.  The study showed that all involved did poorly when intoxicated, whether they were binge drinkers or not.

But, the binge drinkers believed that they did quite well on the driving tests even though their results were equally poor.

Parents Arrested For Kids School Absences

Parents beware!  You may get arrested if your kids skip too much school.

In Florida, some parents were taken into custody for failing to comply with the state's school attendance laws.  Many states in the country have laws that kids have to be in school between the ages of 5 and 18.  Compulsory education and 32 states have penalties for the parents if the kids skip school.

In Jacksonville, Florida, 15 parents were arrested at work or home and sometimes with news cameras present.  Every parent who was arrested had a child who had a minimum of 20 unexcused school absences

Supporters of compulsory education say that these laws keep kids of the streets, lowers crime and gives them a better chance to make it in life.  Statistics have shown that kids who attend school are less likely to be involved in criminal activity.

But, critics want to know the reason why we are so disturbed that kids don't attend school.  And, they remind us that some of these parents have kids who they cannot control or who are poor.  Is sending these parents to jail really a good solution?

The arrested will likely be sentenced to probation.

San Diego State Drug Ring Bust

A college student's drug overdose at San Diego State University has led police to a giant drug bust on campus.

Dozens of students were busted with stashes of drugs, guns and money.  A total of 96 people were arrested, most of them San Diego State students.

The police investigation was prompted by the death of a freshman student coed who suffered from a cocaine overdose about a year ago.  Included in the items found by police: two kilograms of cocaine, 350 ecstasy pills, pounds of marijuana, prescription drugs, $60K worth of cash and a bunch of guns.

Police believe that they have the majority of the drug ring participants in custody.  But, they speculate that those people could be a part of a much larger organization so there could be more arrests.  There is also a possibility that the drug ring has expanded to include other college campuses
